Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Jackpot Talks (“we”, “us”) does with information when you use jackpottalks.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived, so it is shorter than most.

The short version: your entry lists never leave your browser, we have no user accounts, we do not sell personal information, and the only data you actively send us is what you type into the contact form.

1. The tools do not send us your data

Every picker on this site — the wheel, the list randomizer, the team generator and the rest — runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. The names, usernames or items you enter are processed on your own device and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. We do not have a copy of your entry list, we could not produce one if asked, and there is no server-side record of any draw you make.

This has a practical consequence worth understanding: if you close the tab without saving, your list is gone. That is by design.

2. Information stored on your own device

When you press Save list, we store that list in your browser's local storage. We also store your display preferences (whether the sidebar is shown, and whether you chose compact density). Local storage is not a cookie and is not sent to our server with page requests — it stays on your machine until you clear it.

You can delete all of it at any time by clearing site data for jackpottalks.com in your browser settings. Nothing on the site breaks if you do.

3. Information you send us deliberately

If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, topic and message you type, plus your IP address and a timestamp. The IP address is recorded for one narrow reason: to rate-limit automated spam. We use these details only to read and answer your message, and we do not add you to a mailing list — we do not run one.

We keep contact messages for as long as needed to handle the matter and a reasonable period afterwards for reference, then delete them. You can ask us to delete yours sooner.

4. Server logs

Like practically every website, our hosting provider records standard technical request logs: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser's user-agent string. These logs are used for security and for diagnosing faults, are not combined with anything that identifies you personally, and are rotated automatically.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Jackpot Talks itself does not set any tracking cookies. We do not use cookies for logins (there are no accounts), shopping (there is nothing to buy) or profiling.

Third parties may set cookies, and the significant one is advertising, covered next. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies from their settings; the site remains fully usable if you do.

6. Advertising, Google AdSense and the DART cookie

This site is funded by advertising. When advertising is active, third-party vendors including Google serve ads on our pages, and those vendors use cookies and similar identifiers to do it.

Specifically: Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies — historically known as the DoubleClick DART cookie — enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. These cookies may be used to show you personalised advertising, to limit how often you see the same ad, and to measure whether ads worked.

You are in control of this, and there are several independent ways to switch it off:

Turn off personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can decline the DART cookie there; you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised.
Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google's advertising policy.
Opt out of many networks at once via the Network Advertising Initiative or the DAA's YourAdChoices.

We do not control third-party cookies and cannot see the data they collect. Each vendor's own privacy policy governs what they do with it. If you are in a region where consent is required before advertising cookies are set, our ad provider presents a consent notice, and your choice there is respected.

One promise specific to this site: ads are never placed inside a tool where they could be mistaken for a result, a winner or a control. A draw result is always plain text produced by the tool itself.

7. Analytics

We do not currently use any analytics service that builds a profile of individual visitors. If we add aggregate traffic measurement in future, we will name it in this policy and update the date at the top before it goes live.

8. What we never do

We do not sell or rent personal information. We have never done so and have no plans to.
We do not upload, store or share the entries you put into any tool.
We do not require an account, and we do not ask for information we have no use for.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children (see below).

9. Children

This site is written for adults — organisers, creators, teachers and managers — and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Because teachers do use random name pickers in class, one clarification matters: a student's name typed into the wheel is never transmitted to us. It stays in the teacher's browser. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over personal information we hold about you: to know what we hold, to get a copy, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of them.

EU and UK (GDPR). Our lawful basis for handling contact-form data is our legitimate interest in answering you, and for security logs our legitimate interest in keeping the site working. You may lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA). You may request disclosure of the categories of personal information we collected in the past twelve months and ask for deletion. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising on our own account; where third-party advertising vendors act as controllers, use the opt-out links in section 6.
Brazil (LGPD). You may confirm whether we process your data, access it, correct it, request anonymisation or deletion, and ask about with whom it has been shared.

To exercise any of these, write to us through the contact page or email [email protected]. We answer within 30 days. We will not make you create an account to ask, and we will not demand extra identification beyond what we need to locate your data — which, given how little we keep, is usually just the email address you wrote from.

11. Security and international transfers

The site is served over HTTPS. Contact messages travel by email to a mailbox we control and are not published anywhere. Our hosting and email providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States; where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. No transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, so please do not send us sensitive personal information — we never need it.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works, we will update the page and the “last updated” date above. Material changes — adding analytics, for instance — will be described in plain language rather than buried in a clause.
